QS 111 – Tajweed and Recitation (3.0)

This course teaches the correct recitation of the Qur’an and the rules surrounding it so that the correct meaning of the Qur’an is retained when reciting in Arabic.

 

 

QS 115 – Qur’anic Sciences (Uloom al-Qur’an) (3.0)

A historical overview of the sciences of the Qur'an. It will, in particular, deal with the Compilation of the Qur'an; Asbab an-Nusul; Naskh in the Qur'an; Categories of I'jaz of the Holy Qur'an (focusing on Muhkam and Mutashabih, Amthal al-Qur'an, al-Aqsam and Mushkil al-Qur'an); Translation of the Qur'an; Tafsir of the Qur'an and its schools (Tafsir bi-l-ma'thur and Tafsir bi-r'Ra'y).

 

QS 212 – Analytical Study of the Qur’an (3.0)

An introduction to studying the Qur’an with understanding. This course will discuss the prerequisites of approach the study of Qur’an, participation of the inner-self, rules or reading, reading with understanding, and importance of collective study of the Qur’an.

 

QS 313 – Analytical Tafseer (3.0)

This course covers selected Surah’s from the Qur’an using the analytical tafseer methodology.  The study of the Surah will include an understanding of the reason of revelation, context and background of revelation, context in the Qur’an, ahadeeth related to the revelation, and the present day application of the verses to our daily lives.

 

QS 412 – Topics from the Study of the Qur’an (3.0)

An overview of Qur’anic guidance as it relates to selected topics. The course will provide an overview of how to select verses relating to a topic keeping in mind their context and reason of revelation and how to understand seemingly conflicting revelations.

 

QS 415 – Thematic Tafseer (3.0)

This course involves a detailed study of some papers written on different subjects, based on the Qur’an and Sunnah, in order to train the students how to collect ayat and Hadith on a specific subject to form a paper or to prepare for a talk, utilizing guidance from the whole of the Shari’ah.
